Suspension or Tangent clamps are used to support
the cable weight at intermediate poles where no significant tension
exists. They are typically of 3-bolt configuration with the central
bolt mounting the fixture to the pole and the outer two bolts are
used to compress the clamp onto messenger component. There are three
kinds of tangent clamps depending on “Pull at a Pole”.
“Pull at a Pole” can be determined as follows:-
- A distance of 100 ft. (30.48m) is measured along both intended
cable span directions. These points are marked by stakes or other
means.
- Measure the distance between these two points.
- Mark the mid pint of this distance.
The distance of this mid point from the pole is called “Pull
at a Pole”.
Now depending on this “Pull” there can be three types
of tangent clamps.
